DC DOCS Partnership Grant
SUBMISSIONS ARE CURRENTLY CLOSED.
Washington, DC has a treasured cultural legacy that spans generations. Through the DC DOCS Partnership Grant Program (DC DOCS), HumanitiesDC supports documentary film projects that record the District’s history, people or places. This opportunity is part of the Humanities Grant Program supported with funding from the District of Columbia Government through the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.
DC DOCS provides capacity-building and financial resources to established filmmakers. Potential projects must incorporate relevant humanities scholarship into the stories that they tell.
Prospective projects will:
- be led by mid-career or established filmmakers who can provide evidence of their past successes,
- have an advisor or partner who is knowledgeable about the relevant field or subject matter
- be innovative, unique and of strong educational interest to a wide public audience and
- be focused on one or more central humanities disciplines.
An eligible documentary film is a nonfiction motion picture dealing creatively with a cultural artistic, historical, social, scientific, economic or other humanities subject. It may be photographed in actual occurrence or may employ partial reenactment, stock footage, stills, animation, stop-motion or other techniques, must be fact-based (as opposed to fiction) and be no longer than 40 minutes (including credits).
Applications are accepted annually from December to May, and awardees are announced in late June. Applicants may request up to $35,000 and must complete their project by July of the following year. Applications must identify a scholar and how s/he will advise the project through the grant cycle. Each funded project will result in a lasting digital final product that will be added to DC Digital Museum.
