Unpaid Internships
Our unpaid internships are available throughout the year to students currently enrolled in a full time undergraduate or graduate program.
Communications Intern
In addition to general administrative tasks, the Communications intern will be responsible for helping plan and implement campaigns to increase public visibility of HumanitiesDC and our grantees.
- Assist with writing and posting social media posts
- Interview grantees to write grantee profiles for placement on the website and social media
- Write e-newsletter articles
- Assist with HumanitiesDC 40th Anniversary promotions
- Assist with donor communications
Digital Collections/Public History Intern
The incumbent will be responsible for digitizing and organizing resources related to Washington, DC history and culture. Item types include: documentary films; neighborhood history projects; walking tour brochures; oral history recordings; digital humanities projects; and image collections. Specific tasks include:
- Digitizing media and other artifacts
- Drafting accession records in Omeka
- Conducting research on individual items
- Publicizing the collection by writing for the Humanities Council’s blog
Grants Management Intern
In addition to general administrative tasks, the Grants Intern will be responsible for database management, event planning, promotional material design and event management.
- Answering basic questions about grants process to potential applicants
- Editing application materials
- Preparing for grant assistance workshops
- Entering grant data into database
- Planning and coordinating grant ceremonies
This position is an ideal way for someone interested in learning the grantmaking process from the inside, and becoming familiar with various Washington, DC arts and humanities organizations.
