All of us at HumanitiesDC are sending our best wishes for good health for you and your loved ones.  This is a challenging time for everyone.

After careful consideration, HumanitiesDC has decided to suspend applications to the Humanitini Curators Grant – Period 1. We are no longer accepting applications for the March 20th deadline but will accept proposals for the July 31st deadline until further notice (for projects taking place from October 1 – December 31). The core of the Humanitini program is bringing humanities programming to the public. In light of the current public health crisis, we must follow the recommendations for social distancing. Please visit our website or sign-up for our newsletter for more information regarding future programming.

We’ve been hearing many personal reports of how business closures are economically affecting people who typically benefit from our grant programs: independent scholars and artists, small businesses, local libraries and museums, restaurants, etc.

My staff and I are working with current grantees and our funders to determine how we can be of assistance.  We have extended some application deadlines and are talking with grantees to learn how their projects are being affected.  We are in early stages of conversation with our funders about how to extend grantee deadlines or allow grantees to change their projects to accommodate our new realities.

We are glad to offer frequent updates on our Facebook and Twitter accounts with links to relevant information and ways to enjoy the humanities from the comfort of your home.  We also plan to start sharing some oldies-but-goodies of past grantee projects to brighten your day.

Please be patient with our team as they are doing all they can to take care of themselves and their families while keeping our important work going.  As always, we are available by email but bear in mind I am asking my colleagues to limit their availability to the traditional work week. Thank you for your continued support.

Be well,

Joy Ford Austin
