DC ORAL HISTORY COLLABORATIVE
Training Opportunities
The DC Oral History Collaborative trains grant recipients and individual volunteers who will then conduct interviews with some of the city’s most memorable figures. The Historical Society of Washington, DC provides trainings that are open to interested community members.
These workshops are free and open to the public. Previous experience in oral history is not required.
HumanitiesDC facilitates the Oral History Training Program, an intensive three-session workshop that covers interviewing, equipment operation, and project design. The Program also introduces participants to the theory behind oral history as a field and research methodology. Participants are required to attend all three sessions to complete the training, upon which they will get access to the Collaborative’s digital audio recorders for their interviews and a cohort of peers in the DC area involved in oral history. Completion of the Program will also provide the opportunity for participants to submit their interviews to the Collaborative’s collection and get advice and ideas about future narrators to interview.
Training Workshops
Registration is confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis. Workshops are capped at 20 participants.
